This was the first time I ever used a shampoo on my two dogs where they didn’t smell like “wet dog” for hours after their baths. We have an Amstaff and a really smelly Bulldog (w/bad skin allergies). Today we’re going to learn about peppermint and tea-tree essential oils. What are essential oils? They are oils derived from plants that usually have medicinal or soothing properties. These oils are used in many ways from topical uses for skin rashes, acne, infections, muscle cramps, or taken as a medical aid for digestion and more. Essential oils have been used for hundreds of years for treating or soothing minor illnesses or irritations.
Today we’ll learn a little bit about a few of nature’s finest. Tea-Tree oil: Tea-tree oil has Antibacterial and Anti-fungal properties that make it a great oil for scrapes and cuts, and rashes such as poison ivy. It helps keep infection from spreading and works quickly in the case of poison ivy, for clearing up the contracted rash. And Peppermint: Peppermint is nature’s vicks. It helps clear your sinuses of all that winter nasty, and helps relieve headaches and chest congestion. taken as a tea, peppermint is great for digestion and helps relieve gas.
Uses for Tea-Tree Oil:
Tea-tree oil has many uses and properties that make it a great everyday alternatives for chemical antibacterial soaps, and anti-itch steroid cremes. It can be affective in relieving pain from burns as well. Since it has anti-bacterial properties, it is very effective in reducing bacteria in open wounds and sore such as hot-spots and and can keep them from spreading, and or getting worse.
